The Lane Vineyard

Driven by an irrepressible passion for good food and great wine, John and Helen Edwards founded The Lane Vineyard in 1993, and the winery is now one of the most celebrated in the Adelaide Hills region. The Edwards were proud to recently confer custodianship of the winery to their sons, Marty Edwards and Ben Tolstoshev, who share their parents’ zeal for winemaking.

Specialising in traditional cold-climate varieties, The Lane Vineyard produces 25,000 cases of wine per year, including – but not limited to – sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, pinot gris, pinot noir, shiraz, merlot and rosé.

Sustainability is at the forefront of The Lane Vineyard’s winemaking philosophy, and it strives to be socially responsible, environmentally sound and economically viable in all of its practices. The winery uses state-of-the-art technology and equipment, while the 80-hectare vineyard is lovingly hand pruned and handpicked to deliver the beauty of the vineyard in every glass.

In the Halliday Wine Companion 2018, The Lane Vineyard received five prestigious red stars. The impressive rating is a testament to the winery’s long and distinguished track record of producing exemplary-quality wines.

The Lane Vineyard’s award-winning tasting room, which opened in 2014, is located just outside the picturesque German village of Hahndorf.

The tasting room offers personal wine tastings, seated wine flights and an intriguing look into the heart of a contemporary winery. Situated 400-metres above sea level, the on-site restaurant showcases sweeping views of the vineyard and the picturesque Mount Lofty ranges. With a sleek and modern ambience and an expertly crafted menu that features seasonal South Australian produce, the restaurant is the perfect space in which to enjoy a sensory dining experience.

2012 Reginald Germein ‘RG’ Chardonnay

Barrel fermented in first-class French oak for nine to 12 months, this elegant chardonnay has a complex texture, quartz-like minerality and bright acidity. With notes of white peach, crème brûlée, lime and white almond on the nose, this wine perfectly expresses the refined characteristics that are typical of the Adelaide Hills.

2012 19th Meeting Cabernet Sauvignon

Made from some of the oldest cabernet plantings in the Adelaide Hills region, this medium-bodied wine has a bouquet of complex violets, cassis, mint chocolate, plum and tobacco leaf. With a silky-smooth palate, long tannins and a lush finish, this deep-red cabernet sauvignon is the perfect accompaniment to hearty winter fare.

2015 Gathering Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

Arguably The Lane Vineyard’s flagship wine, this rich sauvignon blanc has complex flavours coupled with mouthwatering acidity. Vibrant enough to serve chilled as an apéritif but serious enough to accompany a gourmet meal, this is sauvignon blanc – but not as you know it! Careful cellaring will ensure this wine ages effortlessly for ten years.

2015 Block 14 ‘Basket Press’ Shiraz

Made with fruit from the highest, most-exposed site on the vineyard, this trophy-winning shiraz has unsurpassed    lifted    aromatics. Displaying blue flowers, pepper and red and blue fruits on the palate, this savoury and complex wine captures the cool-climate elegance of its high vineyard with depth and character. A long and full finish is accurately directed by firm, fine tannins.
