Pike & Joyce Wines

Established in 1998, Pike & Joyce Wines is a partnership between two families who both share a love of the Adelaide Hills region, a passion for food and viticulture and a desire to produce only the finest wine. The Joyce family, who are fifth-generation horticulturists, and the Pike family, who are long-established in winemaking and viticulture, brought their vision to life in the development of 25 hectares of land at Lenswood.

The Joyce family has owned and managed orchards for more than five generations. This means the vines are cared for in a very traditional sense, being handpicked and hand-pruned to ensure the finest grapes are produced. The grapes are then transported to the Pike family’s highly-awarded Clare Valley winery for vinification.

The Pike family has long been a part of viticulture, with Andrew and Neil Pike working together to ensure a perfectly-balanced winemaking philosophy. Traditional old-world techniques are combined with modern Australian winemaking to produce a style that reflects the variety, region and season.

With a cool-climate, gravelly-loam soil, sloping land and an elevated position, the Pike & Joyce Wines vineyard provides the perfect terroir for the production of the highest- quality wine grapes with a distinctive sub-regional character.

Pike & Joyce Wines’ superb cellar door is perched 593-metres above sea level, providing spectacular 180-degree views of Adelaide Hills and Onkaparinga Valley. The cellar door offers tastings and estate-grown wines for purchase, as well as delicious regionally- inspired meals and platters.

2014 Pike & Joyce Sirocco Chardonnay

The Adelaide Hills is one of the premier chardonnay-producing regions in Australia, and this wine enhances the reputation. The medium-weight palate possesses rich, soft stone fruit characters and a good lick of acidity, keeping the richness in check and providing a clean, slightly creamy finish. Drink now or during the next five to eight years. Great with Chinese-style pork belly.

2014 Pike & Joyce Séparé Grüner Veltliner

Pike & Joyce Wines’ second effort with this classic Austrian native is an encouraging one. The palate is crisp and bright with pear and pepper elements. It is light- to medium-bodied with balanced acidity and fine textural aspect giving some length and grip. Drink now and during the next two to three years. Try it with pan-fried veal and a creamy mushroom sauce.

2013 Pike & Joyce Pinot Noir

A really good wine from an excellent year in South Australia. Although typically elegant, the palate has a good concentration of juicy strawberry and cherry fruit and just a hint of oak and some damp earth. Fine tannins and balanced acid add some length and a little structure to the palate. This should drink nicely now and during the next three to six years. Try with roasted free-range chicken.

2009 Pike & Joyce Méthode Traditionelle Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir

Pike & Joyce Wines is exceptionally pleased with its first foray into the world of bottle-fermented sparkling wine. The four-and-a-half years spent on lees has benefited the wine immensely and has provided a beautifully-complex wine that will impress many. Drink now with fresh shellfish or grilled crustaceans.
