Penfolds Magill Estate

The original site of the Penfolds brand, Penfolds Magill Estate was built in the late 1800s on the land that Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold acquired in 1844. Along with its Barossa Valley cellar door, Penfolds Magill Estate offers its award winning wines to its loyal drinkers.

A short 15-minute drive from Adelaide’s city centre, Penfolds Magill Estate is the spiritual home of the Penfolds brand, which includes the original Penfold family cottage and more than five hectares under vine. With elevated views of the city and sea views over the Gulf St Vincent, the site is a historical treasure.

A heritage tour of the winery is the perfect way to discover the pioneering spirit of the Magill site, as well as indulging in a taste of its highly-lauded Penfolds Grange varietal.

The destination also includes a 5-star restaurant that exemplifies the firmly-established food and wine culture that Penfolds is known for. A recognition of beautiful food and wine as a way of life is the essence of Penfolds Magill Estate.

Coupled with the company’s Barossa Valley site, Penfolds Magill Estate has produced wines that have won the highest possible awards over the last 150 years. Awards include first prize at the Wine Olympics in Paris, as well as accolades from the American publication Wine Spectator magazine.

With a brand new café and cellar door planned to open in 2015, Penfolds Magill Estate is a wonderful way to spend a day, any time of year.

2012 Penfolds Koonunga Hill Seventy Six Shiraz Cabernet

This is a tribute wine to the original 1976-style. Black fruits combine with chocolate and olive flavours.

2011 Penfolds Cellar Reserve Tempranillo

Fruit sourced from a single vineyard in McLaren Vale. Deep and rich in colour, with scents of berries and flashes of tomato, basil and salted- meat savouriness. Ripe summer berries energised with tomato-like acidity with fine-ground tannins.

2011 Penfolds Cellar Reserve Sangiovese

Fruit sourced for this wine is from Barossa Valley. The grapes were fermented at Magill Estate, then basket-pressed and matured in French oak barriques, and bottled without fining or filtration. It has classic cherry characteristics with trademark tannins and layers of intriguing flavours.

Penfolds Father Grand Tawny

Fresh and concentrated barrel- aged characteristics. Soft-rounded fruit, with the oak and maturation harmony of a ten-year-old tawny.
