Majella Wines

On the Coonawarra land that was purchased by their parents in 1960, Brian and Anthony Lynn saw the possibilities for great wine along the front terra rossa bank. The land was originally established for the production of Merino wool and prime lamb, which currently operates alongside the award-winning winery.

Starting with the planting of shiraz in 1968 and cabernet sauvignon in 1970, the size of the vineyard continued to grow to encompass 60 hectares under vine. Smaller lots of merlot and riesling were then planted as demand for the wine increased.

The winery currently produces nine different wines each year, including its renowned reds, whites and unique blends. During the off-season, visitors can watch the sheep frolicking through the vineyard from the still-functioning lamb and wool production business.

Majella Wines has won more than 800 trophies and awards, both internationally and within Australia. It was the first winery to win back-to-back Stodart trophies, which included the Best Young Red award for its 2000 and 2001 vintages of Majella Cabernet Sauvignon.

Bruce Gregory has been the head winemaker at Majella Wines since its first official release in 1991. In 2008, Michael Marcus brought his wealth of winemaking knowledge to the team, which lead to the success of Majella Wines current award-winning range.

A few years ago, Majella Wines invested in a large, solar power expansion and rainwater collection to achieve an eco-friendly vineyard. All recently released vintages are also vegan-friendly to accommodate a vast clientele.

Majella Riesling

This well-balanced wine has a palate of tropical fruit, as well as citrus and lime for a crisp, refreshing taste. Bottled as a young wine, this riesling shows a green hue and maintains a fresh and precise finish.

Majella Cabernet Sauvignon

With a palate of plums and hints of fruit cake, this cabernet sauvignon shows a complex flavour that gives it great length. A magenta colour with deep red hues, this wine has an evident nose of dark fruit aromas, which is beautifully complemented by mint and eucalyptus to provide a unique taste combination.

Majella Shiraz

This crimson-hued, ruby-red shiraz has fine-textured tannins that give it length and an evenly balanced finish. The bouquet of spicy cinnamon aromas delectably complement the palate of dark, red berry fruits, dark chocolate and soft hints of vanilla.

Majella Sparkling Shiraz

Gentle tannins and a palate of blackberries provide a generous finish to this vibrant sparkling red. The luscious hints of plum and nutmeg beautifully complement the spicy fruit flavours.
