Shingleback Wine

Shingleback Wine is a single-estate, family-owned winery that controls all of the aspects of its winemaking process, from growing the fruit on its mclaren Vale vineyard, to the bottling of its wines.
Combining their love of winemaking, farming and business, brothers Kym and John Davey collaborated to develop the estate that was first farmed by their grandfather in 1957. Today, the estate has grown to produce some of the most prestigious wines in Mclaren Vale, and has been was awarded a 5-star rating by James Halliday for many years. Shingleback Wine was also named as one of Halliday’s Top 10 Best-Value Wineries in australia in 2015, which is a well-deserved recognition of the value and quality that the winery offers.

A modern yet minimalist approach is taken in crafting the wines, with the belief that respecting the fruit is crucial to delivering premium products. This approach also represents a family that is committed to producing outstanding wines from the land it loves.

The Shingleback Shiraz was the first wine produced by Shingleback Wine, winning the first of its many awards – a gold medal at the royal Hobart Wine Show. This estate Shiraz is still at the heart of the winery’s portfolio, but the range has grown to include a number of award-winning brands, including Shingleback, red Knot, Haycutters and The Gate. To date, the winery has received an astounding 43 trophies and 395 gold medals across all of its labels.

Housed in the original barn of aldersey Farm (circa 1890), visiting the tasting room is a rewarding experience for wine and history lovers alike. In winter, guests are encouraged to enjoy a glass of wine, while indulging in a personally selected regional platter or bowl of soup, by the open-wood fire. In summer, the South australian sunshine can be savoured either under the shade of the verandah or on the lawn, as visitors take in the surrounding views of the winery’s Kitchen Garden mataro vineyard. The knowledgeable and friendly team is always on-hand to offer tastings of current-release wines, as well as tasting room exclusives.
