Bleasdale Vineyards

Bleasdale Vineyards is rich in history and produces some of Australia’s most exciting, consistently impressive premium medium- to full-bodied red wines. Whether the wine is a sparkling shiraz, a single-vineyard malbec or a flagship Frank Potts Cabernet, the intention is to convey a story in the glass that substantiates its history, diversity and increasingly its pedigree.

Considered to be the spiritual home of Langhorne Creek, Bleasdale Vineyards is proud of its independence, endeavours and belief in the virtues of the region. Established 164 years ago by Frank Potts, the vineyard has built a strong reputation and continues to grow towards another successful era.

The philosophy of the Bleasdale Vineyards winemaking team is to capture the essence of what makes Langhorne Creek red wine so attractive – vibrancy, harmony and texture. Cabernet sauvignon has elegance and a captivating depth of flavour, shiraz is a ripe fruit style with refined cool climate spice elements and malbec is perfumed and finely structured.

Over the last two years, Bleasdale Vineyards has received 14 trophies and 49 gold medal awards, led by the malbec, cabernet sauvignon and pinot gris varieties. The team produces 25 wines per year, with more than 45 hectares under vine.

When visiting the winery, guests can explore the old, domed cellar that was built in 1892, which features walls of French and American oak puncheons, hogsheads and barriques filled with award winning cabernet and shiraz. In the years to come, these wines will become part of the Bleasdale Vineyards premium Frank Potts and Generations ranges.

Only an hour’s drive from Adelaide, guests can taste a wide range of back vintages and current release wines available from the Bleasdale Vineyards cellar door, all while browsing old photographs and paintings and soaking up the historical atmosphere.

2014 Bleasdale Mulberry Tree Cabernet Sauvignon

Named after the ancient mulberry tree that grows in one of the estate’s cabernet sauvignon vineyards, this is an elegant wine with aromas of mixed berries, dark chocolate and violets. The palate is smooth with blackcurrant, spicy oak flavours and textured tannins. Delicious and captivating, this cabernet sauvignon is pure, juice-laden and tasty.

2016 Bleasdale Second Innings Malbec

The first red wine released by Bleasdale Vineyards was a 1961 malbec. This wine shows how smooth a malbec can be, with loads of juicy fruit flavours and a touch of spice and sweet. Finishing with long and smooth tannins, this wine is certainly a crowd pleaser.

2015 Bleasdale Frank Potts Cabernet Blend

This wine is a blend of the classic Bordeaux varieties – cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malbec, and petit verdot. With blackcurrant, plum, lifted violets and a touch of black olive, the wine is complex, seamless and complete. It drinks well young, but also has exceptional ageability.

2015 Bleasdale Generations Shiraz

This wine commemorates generations of family success and reflects Bleasdale Vineyards’ aspirations for Langhorne Creek shiraz. Ripe plum and dark berry flavours are layered with liquorice, pepper and fresh spices, which marry beautifully with subtle oak nuances. This full-bodied shiraz retains elegance and shape with complex wine balance and round tannins.
