DogRidge Wines

DogRidge Wines is a grape and wine producer that specialises in the juicier varieties and blends that capture McLaren Vale’s elegance, perfume and food-friendly charm. DogRidge Wines was established when David and Jen Wright discovered their first 40-acre vineyard in the ancient soils of McLaren Flat’s Kurrajong Formation. The DogRidge family grew and, in 2005, Fred and Sarah Howard joined with the sole ambition to make great McLaren Vale wines.

The cellar door was born and shortly after, the art gallery followed. The friendly and experienced personalities at the cellar door will ensure you are entertained, educated and guided through a tasting experience around the refectory tables. Treasures to expect from DogRidge Wines include tastings of a cabernet that was awarded 96 points by James Halliday, special Wild Tree extra virgin olive oil with Jen’s sourdough bread, botrytis dessert wine and fortified viognier, as well as a concise collection of delectable produce.

It’s a delight to taste lovely wines while peacefully wandering through the gallery, which includes mixed-media bird life on canvas, landscapes and portraits. The winery offers a calm, unobtrusive and relaxed atmosphere in a creek-side setting among the gum trees. The revegetated native corridor invites occasional koalas, echidnas, kangaroos, superb fairy-wrens and many other native birds.

DogRidge Wines is proud of its environmental record, and has won property management awards focused on sustainability and minimal impact on the environment. These efforts include the incorporation of biodiversity into the vineyards, the constant management and renovation of areas of native vegetation and recycling of wine barrel oak and green waste, as well as conservation of precious water resources.

Open seven days a week, head to DogRidge to enjoy the intimate cellar door, gallery, heritage wines, and to see the team’s commitment to producing distinctive wines that celebrate McLaren Vale’s beauty.

TASTING NOTES

2016 DogRidge Butterfingers Chardonnay

DogRidge Wines would like to re-introduce this full-structured, rounded, gorgeous chardonnay. This wine is aged in new French oak barrels in order to create a full-bodied and buttery flavour that lingers on.

2017 DogRidge Running Free Grenache Rosé

This wine is an example of when a variety comes alive, sailing even with a full spinnaker that expresses design, beauty and unparalleled style. Share it chilled, on land, on board, running free or just dreaming where the wind could take you. This wine was awarded 91 points by the 2017 Halliday Wine Companion.

2016 DogRidge Shirtfront Shiraz

This is a robust premium shiraz with explosive flavour and beautiful balance. Powerful aromas of spicy plum preserve with candied floral notes, and the palate is filled with ripe, juicy red fruits and light, silky tannins. This bold shiraz is complex but soft enough for high-end food pairing.

2016 DogRidge Noble Rot White Frontignac

The sinister, grey fungus Botrytis Cinerea can be introduced to extract moisture during later ripening, which leaves a shriveled and ugly – but flavoursome – bunch. This wine scored 91 points in the 2017 Halliday Wine Companion.
