Peter Lehmann Wines

Growing up as part of a family who’d lived in the Barossa Valley for five generations, Peter Lehmann’s passion for winemaking began early in life. At the age of 14, he left school to become an apprentice winemaker.

Lehmann’s longstanding commitment to the region and its community truly came to the fore during the vintages of 1978 and 1979, when he actively worked to protect local grape growers following a fruit surplus. In 1979, Lehmann found the partners he needed to build the winery that now bears his name. Throughout his winemaking career, he continued to demonstrate his loyalty to the growers and a commitment to the region. These values form the foundation of Peter Lehmann Wines today.

A trip to the Barossa Valley is not complete without visiting Peter Lehmann Wines’ winery and cellar door. Lehmann was known for his warm hospitality, and this tradition is still central to the winery. The cellar door offers tastings of more than 40 wines, guided by knowledgeable hosts who share Peter Lehmann’s love of hospitality. Guests can also enjoy the famous Weighbridge Platter, which is a tribute to the time Peter Lehmann spent hosting many memorable get-togethers with growers at the Weighbridge, where they would enjoy mettwurst, cheese and wine after a long day.

The cellar door has been built around the original Hoffmann Cellar, which is one of the original 1880s gravity-fed wineries. Carved into the hill to allow the natural course of gravity to influence the winemaking process, the beautiful archway is now the centrepiece of Peter Lehmann Wines’ cellar door.

The beautiful gardens that run along the Para River are lush all year round, and the picnic tables that are scattered under the swaying red gum trees are the perfect place in which to relax and enjoy a bottle of wine with friends and loved ones. The cellar door and surrounding grounds offer a variety of spaces for private events, such as intimate dinner parties and group conferences. The gardens host iconic regional events such as A Day On The Green, Carols by Candlelight and the much-loved Noodle Nights.

Peter Lehmann Wines has been awarded an impressive 5-star rating in the 2018 edition of the highly regarded Halliday Wine Companion. The cellar door has received numerous awards, including a Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor and a Barossa Trust Mark for its cellar door experience, as well as recognition in Gourmet Traveller WINE’s Best Cellar Door Awards.

Stonewell Shiraz

One of the benchmarks of Barossa Valley shiraz, this wine is a classic example of the rich, concentrated old-vine style. While bold on the palate, there is always an inherent complexity, with dark plum fruit, a touch of chocolate and aniseed. Tightly structured with fine tannins and a long, persistent finish, this hallmark wine will age beautifully over the next five to ten years.

Wigan Eden Valley Riesling

From the shallow rocky soils of the Eden Valley – one of the great riesling sites of the world – the Wigan Eden Valley Riesling has become one of Australia’s most celebrated wines. This riesling is a mature wine with remarkable youth on the palate, classic Eden Valley lime-juice characters, and hints of mature honey.

The Barossan Shiraz

The Barossa Valley is home to some of the greatest shiraz vines in the world. Crafted by the next generation of Peter Lehmann Wines winemakers, this wine showcases a quintessential Barossa Valley shiraz. It is a complex and layered wine with aromas of lifted cherry and dark fruit, which seamlessly combine with chocolate and mocha undertones. It has fine tannins and a soft, supple finish.

Portrait Barossa Shiraz

This wine represents the heart of the Barossa Valley. Fruit from more than 60 growers across the breadth of the region make up the final blend, which affords consistency to the original Peter Lehmann Wines style. A deep colour and a bouquet of dark forest fruits with a hint of chocolate and vanilla in the background, this is a full-bodied, richly flavoured wine with soft, velvet tannins.
