Basedow Wines

The Basedow name is steeped in tradition within the Barossa Valley, with a lineage spanning 120 years and tracing back to one of the Barossa’s founding families. Now, having reached the fifth generation of winemakers, brothers Peter, Michael and Richard Basedow proudly continue their family craft in the Barossa Valley.

Since their arrival from Germany in 1848, the Basedow family has seen the Federation of 1901, the depression of the 1930s, South Australia’s centenary in 1936, the buoyant years of the 50s, and much more.

Fast-forward to the present and Basedow Wines continues to reflect the vision and commitment of five generations of family-owned production.

The winery produces handcrafted wines that reflect the family’s passion for the Barossa Valley and the Australian wine industry. Specialising in white wines such as riesling, semillon and chardonnay, and red wines such as shiraz, sauvignon, grenache, and merlot, Basedow Wines is a staple within the winemaking industry.

In 1987, the winery was sold to an outdside party, and in 2001, the Basedow brothers started making wine under the name B3 Wines. After a long and eventful period, in 2014, the family were able to acquire the Basedow’s brand, which enabled them to trade under their family name again.

2015 Eden Valley Riesling

Pale in colour with light-green tinges, this wine is lifted by the aromatics of citrus, lime and lemon, and balanced by floral and sherbet perfumes. The complex bouquet entices the drinker with a clean, long and well-balanced palate. Seamless acidity and a tight-mineral, steely edge give this wine a strong finish.

2010 B3 Barossa Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre

Coloured by vibrant red and purple hues, the nose shows an attractive warm and sweet spice. The flavours of this wine are typical of a Barossa Grenache, which also has hints of licorice, and confectionary notes. Mid-weight with a rich structure, this shiraz has well-rounded tannins balanced with lingering fruit flavours.

2012 Barossa Shiraz

This wine is a deep-cherry colour and exhibits aromas of rich, punchy spice with hints of plum jam and black cracked pepper. The full and luscious palate is layered with spice and chocolate, and has a firm fruit backbone and gentle mouth-filling tannins. This full-bodied wine has good length and is an excellent example of Barossa shiraz.

2008 B3 John Oscar Barossa Shiraz

An intense deep-red colour with crimson hues, this wine has an abundance of aromas including blackberry, choc-mint, vanilla, dark chocolate, spice and a touch of leather. The palate exhibits flavours of chocolate licorice bullets and tight grape, as well as fine oak tannins from a combination of French and American oak maturation.
