The rich red soil of western Barossa Valley is home to ‘Redlands’, a third-generation family property. Here, Sieber Road Wines grows its grapes in order to produce magnificent, hand-crafted red wines.

Traditionally a cropping and grazing farm, branching into growing vines on the property has proven to be a rewarding next-step for the Sieber family. The vines planted in 1997 by Richard and Val Sieber, with the help of their sons Jarrod, Ben, Tom and Daniel, comprise a total 46 acres under vine.

Estate-grown varieties include shiraz, viognier, grenache and mataro in order to create an exceptional Barossa Valley red. In fact, Ben, the winery’s viticulturalist, aims to produce two tonnes of quality fruit per acre. Daniel, vineyard and winery manager – under the guidance of a consultant winemaker – creates the wine the company is renowned for.

Sieber Road Wines’ 2011 Shiraz Mataro is a standout variety for the winery, with it winning a trophy at the 2013 Marananga Wine Show and scoring 94 points in James Halliday’s 2015 Australian Wine Companion. As well as this, James Halliday awarded both the 2011 Reserve Shiraz and 2011 Special Release Shiraz with 92 and 90 points respectively – an impressive feat for a humble, family-operated winery such as Sieber Road Wines.

2010 Sieber Road Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre

This wine is a deep and impenetrable black, with a dark-red hue around the rim. The nose is a complex mix of earthy and spicy aromas supported by intense black fruits.

2011 Sieber Road Shiraz Mataro

Deep-red with black hues. The nose is spicy and fresh, with vibrant berry fruits and oak. Mouth-filling blackberry fruit and spice with fine tannins. There is a long finish with strong and bold flavours.

2011 Sieber Road Special Release Shiraz

Deep ruby-red in colour. This wine has a toasty oak nose, with pepper and berry aromas. There is a silky smooth texture, with mouth-filling choc-berry fruit. Oak and blackberry fruit persists through to the very long finish.

2008 Sieber Road Viognier

Selective shoot and bunch thinning, together with low extraction rates from whole-bunch pressed fruit, resulted in the finest juice quality. The juice was allowed to go through indigenous yeast fermentation, and then the wine wascellared in seasoned French oak. This, with a good deal of care and passion, has delivered a wine that is succulent and fruity.
