Craneford Wines

Relocating from Springton to Truro in 1998, Craneford Wines has proven itself to be a successful, self-sufficient winemaking facility in Barossa Valley. Currently run by fourth-, fifth- and sixth-generation women of German descent, the company has ensured its wines are widely recognised through domestic and international markets.

Premium quality wine is at the pinnacle of the Craneford Wines ethos. Established by Colin Forbes in 1978, Craneford Wines gathers high-quality fruit parcels from its contract growers in order to produce varieties from start to finish. Specialising in truly regional Barossa Valley reds, the winery, under winemaker Carol Riebke and consultant John Glaetzer’s watch, focuses on displaying the unique characters of the region in which the grapes are grown.

Craneford Wines has won many awards for its red varieties internationally, focusing on Switzerland, Hong Kong and China in particular. Additionally, the company achieved 94 points for its 2012 Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon in James Halliday’s 2015 Australian Wine Companion. With strong ties to the export market, Craneford Wines is certainly a force to behold.

A visit to Craneford Wines’ cellar door is the best place to discover its array of quality drops. The friendly, welcoming staff members are more than happy to offer guided and site-educational tours. The rustic country fire station on the premises has been preserved so that visitors can enjoy the property’s quaint and charming atmosphere. Craneford Wines also offers Angel’s Rest B&B, a three-bedroom house located next to the winery.

A day spent at Craneford Wines indulging in fine wine, with a cosy place to stay afterwards – what more could a wine enthusiast want?
