Hemera Estate

Originally founded more than 20 years ago, the winery was sold in 2012 and Hemera Estate was established. With an invigorated objective to continue producing high- quality, premium wines in Barossa Valley, the new owners pride themselves on the winery’s 95 per cent estate-grown wine and unwavering high standards. The company motto, “a perfect balance between intensity, structure and elegance” rings true for the wines produced at Hemera Estate, and the team is excited about what the future holds.

The rich 50-hectare land that is under vine is home to an abundance of grape varieties including shiraz, chardonnay and merlot. In addition to this, the property’s location makes it one of the first vineyards in the southern Barossa Valley region to enjoy the glorious morning light – hence it being named after Hemera, the goddess of morning light.

Just like the sunshine of a new day, the next chapter for Hemera Estate is bright – it will bring a stronger focus to viticulture, winemaking and the winery’s overall style.

These components, will be the driving force behind Hemera Estate’s cultivation and production of super-premium varieties.

The winery specialises in red wine and has won ample awards from esteemed events for its shiraz. A gold medal from the 2014 Royal Adelaide Wine Show was awarded to Herema Estate for its 2010 JDR Shiraz, as well as two gold medals at the 2013 China Wine and Spirits Awards for its 2008 Tier 1 Shiraz. The winery also won the gold medal from Wineshowcase Magazine for its 2015 Single Vineyard Riesling, and its 2012 limited-release 100-year-old grenache was awarded 94 points by the 2015 Halliday Wine Companion.

Hemera Estate’s cellar door offers guided winery tours, as well as tastings of its multi- award winning wines and local produce platters. Relax in the cosy cellar door and enjoy the picturesque views of Barossa Valley – an afternoon of indulgence at a winery awarded five red stars by James Halliday is a day to be remembered.

2010 Hemera Estate JDR Barossa Shiraz

The nose displays spiced, toasty oak merging with the pristine flavours of plums, blueberries and licorice. The new oak tannins provide backbone to the palate, yet are still rich and silky, complementing the fruit cake, forest berries and dark chocolate flavours. This is a wine that has the power and intensity to age with grace for ten-plus years.

2015 Hemera Estate Single Vineyard Riesling

Situated in the cooler Gully Block of the estate, the gnarled old vines found here were planted in 1968, and always provide fruit of great purity and intensity. The winemaker samples the grapes daily to ensure they are picked at the optimum time to provide this wine, which is clean, pure, crystalline and fruit-driven.

2013 Hemera Estate Single Vineyard GSM

The beauty of this wine is due to the perfect balance that is achieved with the bright red fruits of the grenache and the blueberries of the Mataro, which are brought together by the supple structure of the shiraz.

2013 Hemera Estate Shiraz

This is Hemera Estate’s core wine and every year it is assembled from wonderful parcels of shiraz that show deep, dark fruits with bright aromatics and beautifully- integrated oak. Fruit, cream and a great structure are the hallmarks of this benchmark wine.
