Elderton Wines

Nestled in scenic Nuriootpa is the family-owned/operated estate vineyard of Elderton Wines. Formed by Neil and Lorraine Ashmead in 1982, Elderton Wines has flourished throughout a long history and passion for excellent wine.

Elderton Wines’ goal is to produce world-class wines from entrenched varieties grown in the Barossa Valley from its own vineyard holdings. Managing approximately 200 acres under vine, the winery grows its grapes across varying sites in Barossa, taking advantage of the rich soil the region is known for. Working closely with its winemaking and vineyard teams, Elderton Wines looks to the future with long-term, sustainable production methods and a focus on low yields, low irrigation and minimal inputs.

Rated five red stars in James Halliday’s 2015 Australian Wine Companion, as well as being listed among the Top 100 Best Wines in Australia by Matthew Jukes, Elderton Wines epitomises the iconic Barossa Valley.

Elderton Wines’ cellar door hosts private tastings by appointment for enthusiasts who love to sample award winning wines, as well as offering a seasonal menu of local produce plates. The company celebrates the individual terroirs of its sites by producing wines that show true regional history and character, varietal definition and a slice of its own personality. A visit to Elderton Wines ensures an exploration of the Barossa Valley region and what it has to offer.

2010 Elderton Command Shiraz

This wine has established an enviable reputation since the first vintage in 1984. The second generation of the Ashmead family and Elderton Wines’ co-managing directors are the custodians of a rare piece of heritage and continue to produce a great wine of the world. It is truly an expression of place and one which the family intends to preserve for generations to come.

2012 Elderton Ode To Lorraine

A cabernet shiraz merlot blend was added to the portfolio from the 1992 vintage. Blending only the best parcels of fruit from the vineyard resulted in a truly wondrous and complete wine. From the 2002 vintage onwards, it was renamed in honour of the co-founder of Elderton Wines, Lorraine Ashmead. This is truly the hidden gem in Elderton Wines’ portfolio of premium reds.

2012 Elderton Barossa Valley Shiraz

The fruit for the shiraz is sourced mainly from the vineyard on the banks of the North Para River. In 1982, Elderton Wines was transformed from a vineyard supplying quality fruit for wineries to one in its own right. Since then, the winery has won much recognition for its shiraz. Elderton Barossa Valley Shiraz is now highly collectable worldwide and a benchmark for the region.

2012 Elderton Greenock One Shiraz

The Barossa Valley has as much sub-regional diversity as any of the great wine regions of the world. The vineyard located in Greenock was added to the Elderton Wines family in 2010 and is a great addition to the portfolio. The 60-acre vineyard has plantings back to 1915 and is a terroir in demand by many of the Barossa Valley’s elite winemakers.
