Maggie Beer Products

A highly-respected and much-loved Australian culinary figure, Maggie Beer’s expertise spans a long and fruitful history in the food and wine industry. From Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop to her Pheasant Farm Wines vineyard, it is not hard to see why Maggie Beer Products has set a benchmark for providing quality gourmet fare for Australian and international markets.

When Colin and Maggie Beer started growing grapes in 1973, it was very much a continuum of the already-established Barossa Valley food and wine culture. Producing wine from these grapes was the next logical step for the couple and, in 1997, Pheasant Farm Wines was born. With eight hectares of vines grown on the highly sought-after valley floor, the vines are up to 50 years old and include varieties of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and semillon. During harvest time, the company also produces delicious fresh fruit and cider, so it is guaranteed there is always something visitors can enjoy.

Surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, as well as quince, pear and apple orchards, is Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop. Once Colin and Maggie Beer’s family home, Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop is now an idyllic spot to sample Maggie’s eponymous range of pâtés, pastes, verjuice and ice-cream, while soaking in its picturesque surrounds. The company also encourages its visitors to picnic by the dam or stroll around the property to see the pheasants, geese and turtles.

With a passion for quality produce and estate-grown wine, Maggie Beer Products is a haven for food and wine connoisseurs. Combining this with a beautiful landscape and Barossa Valley’s proud history, Pheasant Farm Wines and Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop is a truly immersive experience that can be enjoyed by all.

TASTING NOTES

2011 Pheasant Farm Home Block Shiraz

Ripe blueberry aromas mingle with warm cocoa characteristics in this bold shiraz. Made exclusively from single-estate fruit, blood plum on the nose follows through on the palate with dark chocolate. Well-integrated toasty oak and nice layers of firm drying tannins give this wine a fine length. Drink now or cellar over the next four to six years.

2010 Beer Bros “The Alfred” Old Vine Shiraz

Handpicked and basket-pressed, this shiraz is a rich and vibrant red with ripe blackberry, dark cherries and cassis mingling in the mouth, offering layers of flavour. Utilising vines from the valley floor that are 40-plus years old, the fruit is beautifully rich in colour, displaying silky tannins and tremendous length. Definitely a wine to savour.

Maggie Beer Sparkling Ruby Cabernet

A non-alcoholic wine made from the juice of ruby cabernet grapes. Sparkling Ruby Cabernet has the bead of Champagne and the mouth-feel of a good wine. Rose petals and crushed strawberries on the nose are complemented on the palate with green tea characters that finish crisp and dry with a note of citrus and sour cherry flavours.

2013 Pheasant Farm Cane Cut Viognier

This single-estate, cane-cut viognier offers a lighter, more refreshing style of ‘sticky’. With the sweetness of late-picked fruit, this golden- coloured wine is never cloying, but well-rounded with warm spice and quince on the nose, following through with ripe apricot and vanilla bean on the palate.
